There is clear evidence that exercise can improve cancer patients’ quality of life and treatment outcomes. With this in mind, we are delighted to be working with the Royal Surrey Cancer Centre and Ralph Manders (programme director for Sport & Exercise Sciences), on two exercise related projects.
The first is a study that has been funded by the Prostate Project and Sport England. It’s an eight-week online exercise study for metastatic prostate cancer patients who are on androgen therapy. Patients are referred by their medical team and Ralph and his team provide the exercise service and evaluate how this does (or does not) improve their quality of life.
The next is a service that is being funded by the Luigi Foundation. This involves a 12-week face to face exercise programme for bowel cancer patients who have undergone surgery for their cancer. Referrals are made via the medical team. This study is again looking at how exercise can improve quality of life for these patients.
