Should I take vitamin and mineral supplements?

For most people, a balanced diet will provide all the nutrients that you need, and taking large doses of vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements is not necessary or recommended.  

It is important to remember that some of the vitamins and minerals can be harmful when taken in high doses and can react with some medications. 

There is currently no strong evidence that dietary supplements can help to treat or control the growth of cancer. 

If you find it difficult to eat a balanced diet you may benefit from taking a multivitamin containing up to 100% of the recommended daily allowance.
